UPDATE ON THREAT TO CENTURY

The school day has been running smoothly and our students are responding in a very mature and responsible manner.

Here is what we know: A student overheard from another student that stated there was a message in the boys’ bathroom that stated the school was going to blow up today. The student that received this verbal message communicated via text message to a number of Century students. One of the students contacted the Rochester Police Department who then contacted Mr. Fogarty.

The Century administrative team communicated with Rochester Public Schools district personnel and the Rochester Police Department to initiate our crisis response. Based on the information we received, we deemed that a threat was made but it did not pose a threat to our students, staff, and visitors.

Here is what has been done to this point:
1. Back-packs and other belongings were checked as they entered the building. This will continue for the remainder of the day.
2. A meeting was held with Century staff at 7:20 to give them a consistent message regarding the situation.
3. At 7:45, Mr. Fogarty made a public address announcement to the entire school with a consistent message regarding the situation.
4. Additional District and Rochester Police Department are assisting to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
5. Century and District administration are checking-in on classes every hour throughout the day.

Overall, the mood and environment has been relaxed and the students are engaged in their classes. Some students have been anxious about the situation and we are responding to their needs. We are very thankful for how well our students and staff have responded to this situation.
You can expect another update at the end of the day.

Very Respectfully,
Chris Fogarty
