A Note From The Principal

Century Families,

Thank you for a great start to the school year! It feels great to be together! We want to keep having a great experience throughout the year! Please review with your Century student(s) a couple of the following expectations during this next weekend:

• Masks are currently necessary to limit the spread of COVID-19. We can all agree they are uncomfortable to use; however, they are one of the tools we use to keep staff and students safe while at Century. Masks need to be well-fitting, cover the nose and mouth and are required while inside Century. Beginning Monday, students not wearing their masks properly may receive a behavior referral and school consequences.
• If your student is quarantined, they need to check in with each teacher’s Google Classroom and communicate with their teachers. We have a number of resources and supports for quarantined students. We have found that communication from the student to the teacher is the best way to stay updated during a quarantine.
• During the school day, the Media Center and Cafeteria are open for students to use during their open periods. Students should not wander the halls; but are welcome to be in the Media Center working quietly or the Cafeteria if they would like to talk with friends.

Please see the links below to view of our First Day Schedule. Please note, only 9^th grade students and Link Crew are expected to come to school by 8:20 on Monday, August 30^th. All new students are also welcome to the morning orientation.

All other students are expected to arrive by 12:15 for the start of 1^st Period. All students are welcome to arrive for lunch, which begins at 11:10 on the First Day.

We are also linking our regular, daily bell schedule, which begins on Tuesday, August 31^st.

World Languages Education Newsletter

Rochester Public Schools provides opportunities for students to show their ability to understand, read, speak, and write in world languages so they can obtain a Minnesota Bilingual Seal on their transcript. For more information, please visit https://education.mn.gov/MDE/dse/stds/world/seals/ This program is designed for heritage speakers whose languages are often not offered in school to show their language proficiencies. Nancy Denzer Interim Principal

Dear Century HS Families,

I'm excited to join the Century High School staff as the interim principal for the rest of the school year. The Century community has been very warm and welcoming as I settle into this role.

I am looking forward to getting to know our students and families and for you to get to know me. I retired as the lead principal at Willow Creek Middle School in June 2018 after 19 years of service to Rochester Public Schools. Before I joined RPS, I spent 15 years with Lewiston-Altura Public Schools. During my first nine years with RPS, I was one of the Assistant Principals at Century High School. Returning to Century for the rest of this school year is like coming home for me. I've worked with many of the current Century staff while I was an Assistant Principal here.

On a personal note, I am married to Maynard Johnson and have two grown children. They are both licensed teachers and have busy families. Maynard and I live in Winona, and we enjoy spending time with family, traveling, hiking, and biking.

I'm looking forward to seeing the students who will be attending school in-person starting April 5th. I also look forward to continued connections with our students and families who plan to remain in distance-learning. I welcome your feedback, suggestions, and other comments as we partner together for your child's education.
