Seniors - Make Sure You Apply For FInancial Aid

According to the Department of Education, as of December 6th just one third of Century Seniors had filed for Financial Aid for the 2018-2019 academic year. If you are one of them, good job! However, since we typically have over 90% of our graduates going on to attend higher education, there are likely a number of seniors who should apply for financial aid who have not done so yet.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) became available for students planning to attend college next year on October 1. This is different than in the past, when it opened on January 1. Students and families can complete the FAFSA for next year using their tax information for 2016, so you should already have all the information you need to file the FAFSA - there is no need to wait!

The FAFSA can be accessed at https://fafsa.ed.gov/

For most high school age students, both the student and family will have to complete the required information. Even for families who find they do not qualify for aid, there can be value in going through the process in order to review the resources available to pay for school. Sometimes families are also surprised to discover they qualify for aid they did not expect. Students and families can talk to their counselor or to Jamie Johnson, RCTC Transitions Advisor, if they have questions about financial aid.

Hopefully by the end of the year our FAFSA completion rate will approach 100%!

Holiday Treat Day for Century Staff - December 12

SIGN UP TO BRING TREATS AND/OR VOLUNTEER:

It is a tradition for the Century PTSA to provide treats for the staff one day during the holidays.  Holiday Treat Day will be Tuesday, December 12 and we are in need of generous families to provide cookies, bars, fruit or candy to show gratitude and spread "Holiday Cheer" to the Century staff.

Treats can be dropped off between 7:30 and 8:15 A.M.  in the circle in front of the main entrance.  Volunteers will be there to take your treats from your car and bring them into the building.  We are also in need of volunteers that morning to help with taking the dropped off treats into the building.

Please click the link below to sign up to provide treats and/or help transport the treats into the lounge, arranging them for the staff to enjoy.
Thank you for your generosity,
Century PTSA

9th Grade School Profile

Parents of 9th Graders,

A copy of the CHS profile, tailored to our 9th graders, has been posted on the 9th grade news tab!  It includes some general information about Century, as well as some data points regarding our 9th grade class specifically.  This information was presented to all 9th graders in English class and a discussion took place to analyze the information.  It has generated some great discussion, questions, thoughts, etc. from some of our 9th graders.  Feel free to share your thoughts: momurphy@rochester.k12.mn.us

Sincerely,
Molly Murphy
