Rochester Fire Department will be evaluating the situation and students and staff will return once we receive the "all clear" from the Fire Department.

All staff and students are safe.

Mock Crash and Distracted Driving Awareness Day

Century's “Distracted Driving Awareness Day” elevated an important message to students not only for Homecoming weekend, but for life. Although the outdoor Mock Crash dramatization had to be cancelled due to thunderstorms, crowds of students participated in the indoor events in the gym throughout the day. Superintendent Muñoz joined the students in “walking the line” and driving the pedal car with the impaired-driving goggles, and there were long lines to try the interactive driving simulator. Local news stations also came to speak with Student Council members about the importance of the event. Thanks again to Century’s police liaison, Julie Claymon, for organizing and managing the indoor demonstrations.

During 8th period, Mayor Brede joined Century juniors and seniors in the auditorium for an engaging and inspiring presentation from Matt Logan. Matt’s daughter died tragically while texting and driving on the first day of her senior year at Byron high school several years ago, and Matt has devoted his life to talking with high school students around the country in hopes to prevent future tragedies. Matt strongly encouraged students to share this important message with the adult drivers in their lives as well, as the problem is so widespread — and it has an impact on everyone. Thanks to the generous contributions of our sponsors: Gary Schueller from Re/Max, Adam Newbloom from Enhanced Driving Institute, and Todd Ingalls from Driver’s Training 101.

Conversations about rescheduling the Mock Crash for later this year are happening – watch the Century Panther Press for updates. This event would not have been possible without the hard work of Sara Hamilton, our Mock Crash Chair, to coordinate and bring all of these resources and opportunities to our campus. We are so grateful to Ms Roberge and her drama students, along with Century staff, administration, volunteers and our incredible community responders for all of their hard work and preparation. Special thanks to Assistant Principal Mary Schoenbeck, Athletic Director Mark Kuisle, staff members Lorie Leske, Marcus Leloux, Julie Claymon, and our PTSA president Christine Jannetto for all of their efforts. Thanks also to Ms LaDue and her Health students for bringing awareness to distracted driving with their informative posters, which were hung on the walls of the school throughout Homecoming week.
