9th Grade News Update - December 5, 2016

The 9th grade Data and Assessment Team has been studying the effects of homework. We have been reading and analyzing research that supports both sides of this topic.
During the week of December 5th, each 9th grader will take a homework survey about the four core classes (English, math, science, and social studies). The purpose of the survey is to gather information from the student's perspective about how much homework is being assigned, how much homework is being completed at home, and whether or not the homework benefits the student. We will also collect information about how the student feels regarding feedback from teachers and the usefulness of each class in his or her long-term education.

All 9th Grade News Updates are Archived in the 9th Grade News tab at the top of the Century Panther Press main page. These updates provide information and provide opportunities for feedback on what Century staff is doing to focus on the issues that impact the grade 9 transition and help the class of 2020 realize its potential.

Every time the 9th Grade News tab is updated, an article will be posted on the Century Panther Press and the Rochester Century High School Facebook page. Make sure you sign up for "Follow by Email" on the main page of the Century Panther Press and Follow the Rochester Century High School Facebook page so you don't miss any updates.

Help a Century Family this Holiday

Every year at holiday time, Century staff gives a holiday package to our "in transition" families. The package includes a complete dinner (ham, milk, butter, bread, potatoes), lots of canned vegetables, fruit, and soups and a few age appropriate gifts.

We are hoping that Century parents and families would be willing to make some donations toward these packages. Donations can include:
  • Gift cards for Target, Hyvee, Walmart to buy groceries
  • Small gifts (blankets, socks, etc.)
We are also looking for donations of gently used winter outerwear and boots.
All donations can be dropped off in the Main Office - tell them it is for the "In Transition" Project.
Thank you for your help!

Senior Party 2017 - Two important messages for parents of Seniors

First: Buy your student's ticket to the all-night Senior graduation party at Century High School now while the cost is still $60. Price goes up to $80 on December 17th so get yours in today. A registration form is attached or can be found on the Century website under resources/senior party - forms and payment can be mailed in, or dropped off in the Century office. Financial assistance is available if needed - please contact the principal, Mr. Fogarty, for more information. Your Senior won't want to miss this memorable event!

Second: Save the Date! Get ready to show how much ‘We Love Our Seniors’ at an adult fundraiser for the 2017 Senior Party on Saturday, January 28th. It will be a fun evening of food, and a silent auction. Ticket information will be coming soon!

In the meantime, we need your help! Donations are needed! Silent auctions are often most successful when they include unique items that can’t just be bought online or in a store. Experiences are especially great! Everyone has something they could donate. Need ideas? If you have a timeshare, or a vacation home, you could donate a week’s vacation. Are you season ticket holders for the Vikings (Twins, Wild, etc…)? Donate a pair of tickets to a game. Are you a gourmet cook? Donate a dinner party or a lesson in preparing your specialty. A gourmet dinner recently sold for $1800 at a local school auction. Love to bake? Donate a ‘year of pies’. Plumber? Donate a water heater installation. Lawyer? Donate will writing services. Another idea is to get together with senior parents from the groups your child is involved with, and donate a theme basket. Last year a group of senior parents put together a beautiful Italian dinner basket with gourmet ingredients and utensils. The possibilities are endless! Remember it’s for a great cause - to give our kids an amazing (and SAFE!) night they’ll remember for a lifetime.

For more information or to make a donation, contact either of the Fundraiser co-chairs,
