College Planning for Parents Presentation - 6:00-7:00 PM - October 16 in Century Forum

There will be an opportunity for parents to learn about some of the ins and outs of the college application process at the conferences tonight. All are welcome to join Century's counselors for an informative session on college admissions. The event is scheduled for 6:00 PM in the Century Forum (last hour of the conference time). The intended audience is parents of juniors and seniors at Century although others are also welcome to attend.

Parents/Families - Join us for the next Chat With the Principal AND PTSA meeting on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Chat With the Principal will be from 6:00 pm - 7:00pm followed by the PTSA meeting from 7:00 pm - 8:00pm. Both events will be held in the Forum. ALL Century parents and families are welcome!

Chat With the Principal is a monthly event sponsored by the Century PTSA. All Century parents/guardians are invited to attend. Century Principal Chris Fogarty will share the latest Century news and take feedback and questions from parents.

Century High School Conferences

Conferences are Monday, October 16 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Century High School Class of 2018 ~ Senior Party


Dear Century Senior Parents/Guardians:

In honor of graduation, the graduating class of 2018 parents are planning a party!  There will be great entertainment, fun games, fantastic prizes and good food all night.  Pre-registration is required – the form is attached to this alert and posted on the CHS website.  Scholarships are available, please see Mr. Fogarty if financial assistance is needed. 

On the night of graduation, doors will open at 9:00 p.m.  Students must arrive no later than 10:00 p.m. – doors will be lock at that time.  In the interest of safety and security, this is a LOCK-IN party.  Only Century Seniors 2018 whose names appear on the registration list will be admitted.  If a student chooses to leave during the party, parents will be notified immediately. 

Now is the time to get involved and share your ideas for this year’s party.  Please take a moment to read about the plans for the party and look for ways you can get involved:

1.      Send an email to century2018seniorparty@gmail.com to add your name to our email list to stay up-to-date with information and volunteer opportunities.

2.     Attend meetings and help make plans.  All senior parents are welcome.  The meeting schedule is listed on the CHS page under Senior Party.

3.     The Fundraising Committee has begun working to raise funds to ensure a successful party.  You can participate by purchasing/selling HyVee coupon books and Herberger’s coupon books. See the Senior Party section on the CHS website for details.
 
4.     Note on your registration form that you would like to make a donation to help another senior attend the party. 

Thank you for all you have done over the last 12 years to help your student be successful and thank you for helping to make THIS party a truly memorable event for our graduates!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

RE: Bike Trail Closing – Viola Road NE between 15th Avenue NE & Parkwood Hills Drive NE

Where:  Bike Path on Viola Road NE between 15th Avenue NE & Parkwood Hills Drive NE
When:   Monday, October 9th, 2017 to Friday, October 20th, 2017

Weather permitting, beginning on October 9th, 2017 and lasting for approximately two weeks, KATS Excavating will be doing storm water utility work, as well as retaining wall and fence work, in the 1500 block of Viola Road NE, requiring the bike trail located on the north side of Viola Road NE to be closed to pedestrian and bicycle traffic. This work will close the bike trail between Parkwood Hills Drive NE and 15th Avenue NE, but should have no impact on vehicle traffic on Viola Road NE or access to any properties in the surrounding area. To navigate around this area trail users are encouraged to use 14th Avenue NE, Wilshire Drive NE and Northern Valley Drive NE.

Pedestrians, bikers and drivers are reminded to use caution while traveling around and through all construction zones.

Students can check with one of the counseling offices for a pass to attend a meeting with an admissions counselor in the Century Career Center Conference Room in C157 off of the Forum. Students and parents are encouraged to learn more by attending these information sessions.

Every Tuesday students and families can meet with Jamie Johnson, RCTC Transitions Advisor, in C157 to discuss the college application and financial aid process in general as well as address specific questions about transitioning to 
RCTC.

Booster Club Meeting - October 9

Have you joined yet?

  • Century Booster Club supports all students at Century High School.
  • We raise money through member dues, concession sales, and sales of "Spiritwear" from our Panther School Store.
  • All money raised is given back in many different ways. We donate not only to athletic activities, but to academic programs, arts, music, and more.
  • Booster Club also awards qualifying seniors scholarships of $500. 

We are inviting all new parents and anyone interested in learning more about Booster Club to our October 9th meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Century.

Join us for Tailgating at the Homecoming Football Game!

Join us from 5-7pm at Century on Friday, Sept 29, to tailgate for the Century Panthers homecoming football game vs. Winona, sponsored by Davis Law Firm!

  • Taco Moreno’s food truck will be open from 5-7pm, and they are donating 10% of their proceeds to help fund new players uniforms. 
  • Face painting, games (bean bags, yard dice and a football toss) and small prizes available for kids and adults of all ages.
  • 50/50 Raffle to fund new player uniforms.  Tickets are $1 each and the winner will be announced at the end of the game.
  • Davis Law Firm is distributing Century Panther rally towels.
  • Stop by the 106.9 KROC table.  First 100 fans that show the 106.9 KROC app downloaded on their phone will get a free tshirt in Century colors by Inspire Ink.  Got a sweet tooth?  There are Wendy’s treats too!

Minnesota State to waive applications fees Oct. 23-27

Minnesota State colleges and universities are waiving application fees during a week in October.

Every Minnesota State college and university is waiving application fees from Oct. 23-27; other schools are waiving the fee for the entire month of October. Some, including Rochester Community and Technical College and Riverland Community College never charge a fee.

"There has never been a better time for students to explore the many school and program choices offered by Minnesota State campuses," said interim Chancellor Devinder Malhotra.

The parade begins at Kellogg Middle School at 4:00pm on Friday, September 27.  It will head straight west to 3rd Ave NE, then south on 3rd Ave NE to 14th St NE, then east on 14th St NE to 8th Ave NE, then south on 8th Ave NE, ending at Jefferson Elementary School.

Proceeds from all pizza slices sold will be donated to the Century Panther Band. Fundraiser includes pizza slices purchases, not other items.

Volunteers in Education (ViE) News

Parents, Guardians, Family and Community Members -
We'd love it if you would consider volunteering at Century High School this school year. The staff at Century utilizes volunteers in many ways. Century welcomes all volunteers, whether your child is at this school or not. If you want to help the teachers and students, this is the place for you.

All parents/guardians and community members who have NEVER volunteered or registered with Rochester Public Schools ViE will need to complete the District ViE application at http://www.rochester.k12.mn.us/departments/family_and_community_engagement/volunteers_in_education__vie_
Everyone who was in the District ViE system last year will remain registered volunteers this year.
We will be communicating all volunteer opportunities from centuryvie@gmail.com.

Membership is $10.00 per person --- all parents and students can become members. There is NO fundraising. Membership fees are our ONLY means of generating revenue to support activities that serve the Century community. If you would like to join the Century PTSA, please print and fill out the membership form, include payment, and return to Century by October 31.

Good News!

Earlier this month Scott Ketch signed a letter of intent to Ottawa University (Kansas). Receiving a five year scholarship to bowl with the Ottawa Braves. Scott has bowled with the Century bowling team since 2012.  He earned Second Team MN All-state honors in 2016.  Has earned All-Conference honors in 2013, 2014 and 2016.  He also was named Most Outstanding Player in 2016. 
Scott was ranked #6 in the State for the 2016-2017 season.

College Financial Aid Presentation - Monday, September 25

Join Representatives of the Luther College Financial Aid Office in the Century Forum on Monday, September 25 at 6:30 PM. This session will provide an overview of financial aid terminology and the process of applying for financial aid ahead of the October 1 opening of FAFSA filing availability for the 2018-2019 academic year. This is also an opportunity to hear perspectives on financial aid from financial aid professionals at a college typically attended by a number of Century graduates each year.
