Got summer plans? Check out our summer academic enrichment page

Not sure what to do this summer or trying to help your son or daughter come up with some ideas for summer activities? Check out the list of activities compiled under our summer enrichment tab on the Century website. A variety of camps and other programs taking place this summer are listed, as are links to other lists. Some activities are free or low cost while others are more expensive (but may have scholarships available). The site is meant to be starting place for your research into summer opportunities (and we take no responsibility for your experience with any of these providers - use you own due diligence in conducting further research). I am always amazed at the variety of programs out there that can meet just about any interest.

State Student Council/National Honor Society Convention

The three public high schools in Rochester are hosting the State Student Council/National Honor Society Convention the weekend of April 22-April 24th. We need host families for as many as 400 students from all over the state. This is a great opportunity to meet some great kids. All students hosted with you will be of the same gender. In addition to providing sleeping space you also will be responsible for:

- Picking them up at John Marshall High School (Main Door #1)at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, hosting them for dinner(dessert will be provided at JM later that evening), transporting them to JM at 8:00 p.m. for an activity night and picking them up again at 10:30 p.m. (if you have a student they can drive the students within state guidelines)

-Driving them to Mayo High School Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m. (Door 6) after breakfast, picking them up from MHS  (Door 6) at 4:00 p.m. and bringing them home to get ready for a banquet and dance. Driving them to the International Event Center at 6:30 p.m. and picking them up from there at 10:30 p.m.

- Dropping them off at Century High School (Volleyball Center Doors) between 7 and 8 a.m. on Monday morning with all their luggage. Students are housed in groups of 2+ (however many you can accommodate with beds, air mattress, couches, etc.).

Please go to:  CLICK HERE TO REGISTER AS A HOST FAMILY  to register as a host family. NHS students receive 5 sponsored hours for serving as host families which is an added bonus.

MCA Reading Test for 10th Graders on April Early Release Day

On Wednesday, April 12 all tenth graders will be taking the MCA Reading test at Century.  This day happens to be a half day for all students in the school district and makes for a good day to give this state-required exam.  While the MCA tests are no longer a graduation requirement for students, there are still reasons for students to take this test.  One reason is that Minnesota Statutes, section 120B.30 indicates that Minnesota State Colleges and Universities may use high school MCA Reading (and Mathematics) scores to assist in determining course enrollment by the 2018-19 school year.

Students are required to take this test unless they have a completed an opt out form on file at Century.  This form is available at Century in the CD office and is only valid for the 2016-17 school year.  If you filed an opt out form for the 2015-16 school year, that form is no longer valid.  Students who do opt out of the MCA Reading testing will follow their normal class schedule on April 12, 2017.

For additional questions regarding MCA testing, please contact Ginger Kerr at 328-5150.
