MCA Exams on Wednesday

 

Reminder, State MCA Science (Grade 9), Reading (Grade 10), and Math (Grade 11) exams are scheduled for this Wednesday. Students should remember to bring their Chromebook to school in order to take the test on it; personal (but not wireless) headphones may also be used for the Math and Science tests. A student taking the math test may also bring a calculator, though there is also a calculator embedded in the testing program. Room assignments for testing will be posted by the main entrance and the forum. Phones will need to be turned off and stowed away during testing.  Also remember that regular classes start with first hour at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, the special testing period ends at 10:25. Distance learning students will be excused during first hour if time is needed for travel between school and home. Students who finish testing early will have the opportunity to complete their Panorama Survey, catch up on homework, and read. 

For students who are opting out of testing, please note that the posted rosters will not reflect all opt out requests made since Sunday, and, again, note that regular classes will start at 10:30 AM.

 

Seniors do not need to report until first period begins at 10:30 AM. 

ACT at Century on March 2

 

Currently the school district is planning to offer an ACT to all juniors and seniors who did not take the ACT with us last year. For planning purposes, we need to know how many students will plan on coming to take the ACT with us. Note that many, perhaps most, colleges and universities are announcing test optional policies for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 admission cycles and that an ACT or SAT admission test is likely not going to be a required component of your college application. However, some scholarship programs will likely still use test scores as part of their criteria. We will be using the results of this survey to determine who will and will not be coming in to take the test. Students who choose to take this exam will have some additional pre-registration actions they will need to take prior to exam day.

It is important that we hear back from all our juniors about whether or not they plan to take the exam. If you indicate you intend to take the test, we will plan on you joining us on March 2. If you do not inform us of your intent to take the test, we will not have a test for you that day. Juniors who do not take the exam this year will have the option to take the ACT when we give it next spring instead. 

Ahead of the test, doing a little bit of practice could be a good idea. ACT has free practice questions and exams available on their website: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-preparation/free-act-test-prep.html 

On the ACT website, you can also register for National Test dates, note that there is a fee to take the test through ACT on a National Test date, but there is not a fee to take it at school on the District ACT test day.
