Dear Century Panther Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021
school year! Like you, we miss “normal school.” Nothing would make
the Century staff happier than to have our Panthers back on campus for the
start of school. As you’re well aware, we’re at a challenging point in time and
that’s simply not possible. The Century staff is undaunted and we’ve been
working incredibly hard. We’ll continue to do so in the weeks ahead to bring
our students the very best possible distance learning instruction.
Whether face-to-face, or via Google Classroom, we can’t wait to start the
2020-2021 school year with our Century Panthers!
Block Schedule
Traditionally, our school has followed an eight-period day. In a distance learning environment, expecting our students to sit through eight consecutive hours of screen time is unrealistic and doesn’t allow our teachers and students to get to substantive teaching and learning. We will run an A/B day alternating schedule with a four-period block each day. It is important to note that with this new schedule we’ve also adjusted our start and end time.

Century’s Distance Learning Plan will be in place through October 30th. If the decision is made for us to return to normal, face-to-face learning, we will go back to our traditional eight-period day and traditional start and end time, 7:40-3:03.
My Schedule
Your schedule for 1st semester will go live on Monday, August 24th at 5:00 p.m. Log into your Skyward account to access your schedule. If you have trouble accessing Skyward, please contact Century at 328-5101 for assistance.
Distance Learning FAQs? What can families expect from Distance Learning?
While each class is 84
or 86 minutes in length, teachers will not be lecturing the whole time. Teachers
will offer a variety of activities within each block including direct
instruction, teacher demonstrations, class discussions, whole-class and small
group activities, individual and group projects, mini-lessons,
targeted-instruction based on formative assessments, time to practice new
skills, and time for conferencing with students one-on-one. Students will
be participating in class discussions and activities, collaborating with their
peers, practicing new skills, and receiving direct feedback from their teachers
in real time. Part of the time might even be for some built-in social
interaction as we know that’s an important piece our students are missing through
distance learning!
Will I have access to my teacher live?
Yes. During your class period, your
teacher will be available from start to finish, just as they would be during
normal, face-to-face school.
Am I expected to attend each class every day?
Yes. Students are expected to attend
each of their classes, every day. If you are absent, you will be expected to
call the Attendance Office at 328-5110 to report your absence.
What
if I have a situation that needs special attention?
Equity is the name of the game. We
strive to work with the various needs of each of our students on a daily basis.
Please communicate with your teacher and/or Century staff member regarding
needs you may have that require special attention. We will work with students on
a case-by-case basis.
How
will I gather school materials?
We will have a drive-up, curb-side
pick-up that will take place at the main entrance of Century High School that
will be held Tuesday, September 1st from 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. Here,
you will collect any textbooks, course specific materials, and a device (if
needed). More detailed information about this event will be coming soon.
Will Students Be Able to
Come to School for Support?
Yes. We are developing a
plan for students to be able to come into the building when they need support.
More detailed information will be shared in the near future.
More to Come!
