After capturing the Rochester City Cup and a 6th place showing at the Minnesota State Chess Association State K-12 Scholastic tournament March 31-April 1, the Century Chess Team participated in the United States Chess Federation (USCF) National Senior Scholastic Tournament April 13-15 in Minneapolis.
Players competed in divisions based on each player’s USCF rating. In the Under 1200 team standings, the Century team achieved 19 points which placed them in a tie for 5th/6th place out of 63 teams. This was the highest finish of a Minnesota school in a rated division. Century team members are senior Henry Newshutz, juniors Cheenar Banerjee, Gregory Nathan (Banerjee and Nathan tied for 30th place/top 10% in the U1200 division), Enoch Tan and Michael Ekker, sophomore Rory Li and freshmen Ethan Kub and Ted Woolner. Congratulations to the team and to coaches Chuck Handlon and Dr. Stephen Ekker.
