Century Juniors and Families,
In response to the recent learning model announcement for secondary schools we have been working on a final plan for ACT testing. The ACT cannot be administered remotely so we are planning for all of logistics related to in-person testing including transportation, food service, supervision, and COVID-19 mitigation procedures.
The ACT has historically been used as a college admissions exam that has often been a required component of an application for many colleges; however, recently most colleges have announced test blind or test optional policies for at least the next couple of admission cycles and in all likelihood most students in our junior class will not need an ACT score to apply to a college of their choice. An additional consideration is scholarship criteria, and at present it appears that a number of scholarship programs are still using ACT scores as an eligibility factor.
The initial ACT test date will be Tuesday March 2, 2021 with a make-up date scheduled for Tuesday March 16, 2021. All grade 11 students have the opportunity to come to school and participate in a cost-free ACT exam. Testing will begin at approximately 8:30 AM and will conclude at or about 2:00 PM. Students will have access to a cold breakfast and/or lunch here at school should they so choose.
Students who plan to take the ACT with us on March 2 should try to pick up materials ahead of time explaining how to do the required online registration for the exam. Students who do not complete this ahead of time will have a limited window of two days to complete this task after testing is complete. Each student has an individualized code for registration that they can pick up at Century along with a pamphlet explaining how to do online registration. Students can stop by to pick up these materials through Friday, February 26.
Students will be required to wear a face mask/covering at all times while on site for ACT testing and will be asked to maintain social distancing with other students and staff. Students are encouraged to bring multiple #2 pencils for testing as well as something quiet to occupy their time should testing conclude early.
Students are welcome to provide their own transportation to/from school, however adjusted bus routes will be running should students need district transportation. Return routes will simply run in reverse, leaving the HS at approximately 2:30 PM. Transportation is not provided for students within the HS walk zone.
Should you have specific questions about ACT testing please contact Darren Couillard, 328-5004 (e-mail: dacouillard@rochesterschools.org) . Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on March 2!
